Day 84 – Your WEIGHT Your RULES – April 19, 2016 – The USPS Postal Service inspired me to write this blog post. As many of you know, I sell on eBay and I ship items almost every day. Last week while I was standing in line at the post office, I looked at a banner that read, “Your House, Your Rules.”
I thought the words were catchy and knew they could easily be applied to losing weight. However, my mind always puts its own spin on things. I immediately, thought of “Your Weight, Your Rules.”
I am at Day 84 of Facing MY FAT, and I have completely made up my own rules from day one. You could say that I am playing a game of…
I eat when I want, where I want, what I want, and I spend a lot of time thinking about why I want to eat (or not).
While talking to my Florida friend today, I acknowledged how slow I am at losing weight. I will be at 90 days next Monday and I don’t know if I will make it halfway through my goal. I know that losing weight slowly really isn’t so bad and losing slowly means that I am more likely to keep the weight off.
I am working on changing YEARS of eating habits. Some days I do really good, others not so much.
We talked about sodium. I told her that while sugar is my addiction, sodium is my Achilles heel. She was surprised when I expressed how too much sodium in a meal can make my weight go up a pound or more in just one day. She doesn’t consume much sodium and has the opposite effect. She has borderline, low sodium. She rarely eats out and is a very healthy eater.
Me? I eat out several times a week. If you have read any of my posts under my blog category, Sodium Challenged, you know how much sodium is hidden in food.
For example, last Friday afternoon at 1:00 pm, we went to the General RV Center to do a walk-thru on a used, 2004 travel trailer that we just purchased. We ate a meal, just before noon, so I thought I was prepared. Well, we ended up being there for four hours and since they were having a show special, they had free food.
I don’t know about you but I can never pass up free food! At first I just had some popcorn. Mind you I had complained the Friday before that the popcorn machine was empty. So of course, this Friday I had to eat some. Then a few hours later, I ate a grilled hot dog in a bun with ketchup and mustard. And, a soda. OMG. I knew what I was doing but I couldn’t say, “no.”
What happened to my weight when I got up Saturday morning? It was high. When I gain weight from too much sodium, it stays on for a couple of days. The sad part is my weight was at its lowest on Friday morning, before the unplanned, free food.
When will I ever learn that there is no such thing as free food? I always pay the price one weigh or the other.
Day 84 – Your WEIGHT, Your RULES
The upside of Your (My) Weight, Your (My) Rules is exactly that. No one is telling me what to eat or do. I guess some would say, the downside is pretty much the same.
Honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way. Ultimately, self-responsibility is what it takes to accomplish anything. I will add that my husband, Mark, does a pretty good job of keeping me in check (most of the time). He likes to tease me and tell me that he is my conscience.
Of course, I can have the opposite effect and can be a bad influence on him and his weight loss. I was the one who insisted WE eat the free hot dogs. What happened? His weight was up too.
We always joke that our marriage vows should have read, “For better, for worse, for worse, for worse….”
